"Istanbul Declaration" Rejects US Administration Recognizing Al-Quds as Capital of Israel

Kings and heads of states and governments of the OIC member states rejected and condemned the statement of the United States of America's Administration on the status of Al-Quds Al-Sharif, declaring that this statement is null and void in terms of conscience, justice and history like Israel's decision to annex Al-Quds, its measures and procedures there, which have never been and will not be acceptable.
This came at the conclusion of their Extraordinary Islamic Summit held earlier today in Istanbul, Republic of Turkey.
The Istanbul Declaration called on all members of the United Nations, the European Union and the international community to remain committed to the status of Al-Quds and all relevant United Nations resolutions, stressing that the aspiration to establish an independent and sovereign State of Palestine on the basis of the 1967 borders with East Al-Quds as its capital won't be conceded as it is a prerequisite for peace and security in the region.
The participants declared their determination to cooperate and coordinate in order to support the cause of Palestine and Al-Quds Al-Sharif at international forums, especially the United Nations, and to mobilize support in the name of all humanity to strengthen the State of Palestine and its institutions in all fields.
The Summit called upon all States that have not yet recognized the State of Palestine, which was proclaimed in 1988 in Algeria as the embodiment of the desire of the Palestinian people to live a free life, to take such a decisive step since today's recognition of the State of Palestine is a prerequisite for achieving balance, common sense and logic in the region in the wake of recent developments.

The final declaration affirmed the recognition of the State of Palestine, calling on the whole world to recognize East Al-Quds as an occupied capital of the State of Palestine and to call for Palestinian reconciliation without further delay on the basis of mutual respect, trust, harmony and the spirit of national solidarity, renewing the support for achieving this reconciliation in this regard.
The summit called upon Trump administration to revoke its illegal decision, which would cause chaos in the region, urging the cancellation of this wrong step. The Participants reaffirmed their full support of all Palestinian brothers, foremost among them President Mahmoud Abbas of the State of Palestine in their struggle to establish an independent and sovereign State of Palestine with Al-Quds as its capital, stressing the importance of preserving the sanctity of holy Al-Aqsa Mosque and its historic status for the entire Islamic nation.

The Summit emphasized the centrality of the cause of Palestine and Al-Quds Al-Sharif to all humanity, as it is the main reason for the establishment of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), stressing that it will not be possible for the Islamic nation to strongly defend its issues at the global level except through unity and solidarity, renewing the commitment to the terms and provisions of the Charters of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, the United Nations and the principles of international law.
The meeting referred to the resolutions adopted by the Islamic Summit Conference and the Council of OIC Foreign Ministers on Palestine and Al-Quds Al-Sharif, reaffirming United Nations resolutions on Palestine and Al-Quds Al-Sharif, in particular Security Council resolution 478 in 1980.
The Summit greeted the extraordinary peaceful resistance being shown by the entire Palestinian people, especially the people of Al-Quds Al-Sharif, through their huge sacrifices against the heinous violations at Al-Haram Al-Sharif in July 2017, stressing the importance of joint action with all international partners who share the Islamic countries the same visions and ideas to address the statement by the US President Trump, based on international legality and law, as well as to refrain from violence in all its forms.
The participants in the Summit expressed support for the role of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan as custodian of the holy sites in Al-Quds Al-Sharif and for the steadfast position of the Jordanian Endowments Department in preserving the sanctity of Al-Haram Al-Sharif and its historical status as a place of worship.

The Extraordinary Islamic Summit condemned Israel's unlawful settlement activities, land confiscation, demolitions and the use of excessive force in the occupied Palestinian territory, affirming their common endeavors and efforts to end the inhuman siege that deprives more than two million Palestinians of their liberty and decent living as well as isolates them from the rest of the world for more than a decade while efforts will be made to alleviate their plight, renewing their commitment to protect the rights of the Palestinian refugees until a just and lasting solution is reached.
The participants stressed the importance of supporting the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), which provides essential services to Palestinian refugees for their survival since 1949.

The Summit emphasized that President Trump's decision on Al-Quds doesn't only violate the resolutions of the United Nations but also the centuries-old heritage of Al-Quds, thereby disregarding the historical, social and cultural realities and the provisions of international law, stressing the importance of protecting the multicultural and religious character of Al-Quds Al-Sharif, where the sanctities of the three heavenly religions are a historical consequence of the philosophy of tolerance being rooted in Islam; the religion of moderation and peaceful coexistence, pointing out that every step that does not respect the rights of Palestinians in Al-Quds, which has always been confirmed by the relevant UN resolutions forms a strong blow to the aspirations to achieve coexistence among the followers of different religions.
The Summit recalls the gravity of suffering taking place in the past when the distinguished religious identity of Al-Quds Al-Sharif and its sanctity were not respected, considering that the protection of Al-Quds is the cornerstone of the establishment and maintenance of justice and mutual respect in and outside the region, reaffirms that genuine peace for all can be achieved only with the end of the Israeli occupation of East Al-Quds, the West Bank and Gaza, and when the Palestinians become free in their homeland, affirming to the entire world the need to preserve the safety and security of future generations by countering with these illegal acts.
In its final communique, the summit affirmed that every person with a sense and conscience, regardless of his religion, nationality and belief, has the responsibility today to stand by the Palestinian people and Al-Quds Al-Sharif in their just cause, expressing their appreciation to the Turkish Republic and its people for hosting the Extraordinary Islamic Summit on this important issue for the nation, in particular the invitation of the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, to convene this extraordinary summit.
